My Story

I'm Uršula, the driving force, creative mind, artisan, coffee aficionado,
developer, salesperson, PR and marketing enthusiast, and the cleaning fairy
behind the Urchic brand.

Growing up in the picturesque village of Kranjska Gora, my childhood was filled with skiing, biking, and the beauty of the mountains. Despite not having an artistic upbringing, drawing and creating became my sanctuary. A gentle soul shaped by sports and discipline, I found myself captivated by art, inspiring me to pursue a career in a creative field.

I studied and worked as an architect. Involved in an intense practice that takes a long time in its journey from sketch to finalization, I discovered my buried dream - ceramics. Executing the whole process and the physical aspect of working with raw earth drew me in. When I entered the world of delicacy, translucency, and even capriciousness of this white gold, I couldn't leave.

Another truth is that I might not have thought of entering this world had I not
stopped for a while to become a mom of three adorable girls, but that's another
story.

Behind the Scene

Every product available in my shop is handmade by me. I begin with a sketch or simply a lump of clay. I've found that new ideas often take shape and become clearer as I immerse myself in the creative process. Employing various techniques, I start the casting process by crafting a clay prototype. Subsequently, I create a plaster mold, which is then used to produce the final pieces. All accessories, attachments, details, and jewelry are hand built, resulting in unique items with possible deviations in shape and glaze.

Recently, I've been captivated by the combination of rolling and pinching, which allows for complete expression of the moment and results in a truly unique piece. Due to the nature of manual work, the form of products may not be perfect. None of the pieces in a collection are exactly alike.

The pieces are sanded and fired twice. The highest firing temperature is 1300°C. The pieces with golden details are fired three times. The golden decoration contains real gold. After the firings, the cups are sturdy.

The whole process from scratch to the final product with all the steps in between takes 10-15 working days and is done by one person only - me.

I take every piece into my hands at least 15 times. The prolonged duration is also attributed to the slow drying and cooling times necessary for porcelain to prevent breakage or cracking.

My inspiration

My Commitment

I aim to elevate the moments of connection between lovers of subtle aesthetics through contemporary but warm and refined handcrafted porcelain products. Spreading joy, one smile at a time, and brightening your days with my handmade porcelain creations.

I believe that inspiration is often born from the work itself. But the mind takes seeds for it from many sources. For me, those are nature as number one, all kinds of forms, patterns, sport, dance, children, emotions, cities and practically everything that surrounds us on the way and makes us feel something.

My passion is forms, textures, and graphics as a blend of the former with colours, a blend that evokes something in somebody.

A Symbol of Strength and Gentleness in Every Piece

About the bear

The bear has been with me since the beginning of my journey in the world of ceramics. 'Ursus' (Latin) means baby girl bear, derived from my name. The bear figure symbolizes tenderness and warmth, as well as strength and determination to move forward. And yes, my first soft toy was a bear.

The bear stands in the logo and on each product (excluding jewellery) as a stamp, symbolizing the connection between the earth and the sky. Earthiness, in its sense, conveys solidity and attachment to materiality, while the stars represent ideas and awaken the imagination. The image of the bear appears gentle, yet it embodies strength. These same characteristics also apply to porcelain.
